Overview
The Free Territory of Urkesh is a frontier nation of nomadic three indigenous territories. These three territories are roughly divided by the dominant racial tribes and clans that can maintain settlements. Urkesh has relatively little agricultural potential but is rich in ores and minerals. Urkesh also has little to no natural entrances to the core of Roshar and was never connected to the old dwarven Deep Roads. Urkesh has never been truly conquered due to the disparate peoples coming together to fend off outsiders with guerrilla tactics.
However, in the past few centuries a northern port settlement has become a haven for corsairs and other criminals. This is a de facto corsair city. The native Urkesh tribes and clans consist of the Orcs, Goblins, and Bugbears. The bugbears are isolationist and have a non-aggressive but defensive attitude due to their endangered status.

Overview
Orcs
The Orcs of Urkesh are a nomadic tribe, fiercely independent despite their close tribal bonds. Their hardy nature and respect for strength of character are often mistaken by other peoples as being inherently warlike. In reality, an Orc would just as readily respect a talented and confident spellcaster as they would a skilled melee fighter.
Despite their independence, the Orcs of Urkesh are deeply connected to their tribal traditions and way of life. They are known for their strong sense of community and the importance they place on family and tradition. They live off the land and have a deep reverence for nature and the natural world.
The Orcs of Urkesh are proud of their culture and fiercely resist any attempts by outside forces to forcibly convert them to another way of life. They have a deep distrust of outsiders, but will extend hospitality to those who show respect for their ways and traditions.
While the Orcs of Urkesh may appear to be simple, warlike people to outsiders, they are in fact a complex and nuanced culture with a rich history and traditions. They value strength and honor above all else, but this does not necessarily translate to violence or aggression. Those who take the time to get to know the Orcs of Urkesh will find a proud and resilient people with a deep love for their land and way of life.

Goblin Clans
Goblin Clans
Overview
Goblins
Goblins are a fascinating race that has made its home on the continent of Urkesh. These small and nimble creatures originally hail from the Feywild, much like the Elves, and have adapted to the harsh conditions of Roshar.
The Goblin way of life is heavily influenced by their clan mentality. They place great importance on their kin and work tirelessly to protect and provide for their own. As a result, they have developed an intricate system of social hierarchies that governs their relationships and interactions with one another.
Despite their diminutive size, Goblins are incredibly tenacious and resourceful. They use their cunning and wit to outsmart their foes, and their small stature allows them to move quickly and silently through the environment. They are also skilled hunters and trappers, with a deep understanding of the land and its many secrets.
Living in close proximity to the Orc Tribes and the Bugbears, the Goblins have developed a complex relationship with these neighbouring races. While they may share some similarities in culture and history, the Goblins maintain a unique identity and way of life that sets them apart.

Bugbears
Bugbears of Urkesh
Overview
Bugbears
Bugbears, also known as “The First People” in their native tongue, are humanoid creatures distinguished by their shaggy brown fur, which varies from dark to light shades. Standing at an average height of seven feet, Bugbears possess facial features that resemble those of a bear, with sharp teeth and pointed ears. Their senses, especially their hearing and smell, are exceptionally keen, aiding them in their daily lives.
Culturally, Bugbears are a friendly and hospitable people who place great importance on manners. Despite their welcoming nature, they are isolationist due to their endangered status. They inhabit the mountainous forests on the northeastern coast of the island of Urkesh on the planet Roshar, where they maintain minimal contact with the outside world. Bugbears are adept archers and hunters, utilizing their heightened senses to track prey effectively. While they are generally peaceful, they are known for their fierce response when provoked, though such instances are rare given their emphasis on etiquette.
The Bugbear society operates with a decentralized government, lacking a central leader or ruling body. Community decisions are made collectively, with significant influence from elders and shamans. Their religious practices are shamanistic, centered around reverence for nature and the spirits of the forest. Bugbears strive to live in harmony with the natural world and are dedicated to its protection.
Historically, Bugbears were once a populous race, but their numbers have dwindled due to the encroachment of other races on their lands. While they have been given the derogatory name “Bugbears” by outsiders, they proudly refer to themselves as the First People, honoring their heritage and history.
